Weekly Marvel Review: July 27, 2022 (Week 30)

Marvel takes another trip down memory lane with two new titles: Ant-Man and Gambit. The Ant-Man of 2549 A.D. travels back in time to Hank Pym’s early days as the original Ant-Man to kick off a series which showcases the many characters to take up the mantle, including Eric O’Grady and Scott Lang. In Gambit, legendary X-Scribe Chris Claremont returns to Gambit and Storm’s original team-up when Remy taught ‘Ro everything he knew about thieving.

Book the Week – Amazing Spider-Man #6 (Review score: 53 Points; 11 Characters). Amazing Spider-Man‘s milestone 900th issue celebrates Peter Parker’s birthday by giving him an unusual gift. He frees and teams up with his deadliest foes, the Sinister Six, to stop the Ultra Living Brain. A backup story details Peter Parker’s love for library books and how they have aided him in previous battles. Another tale depicts an impromptu interview on Jimmy Kimmel’s show and a high school dance gone wrong for Peter Parker.

Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 16 Points/1 Appearance; 16.0 Pts/App). Peter Parker had a slow start to the year, being that he was in a coma, but since returning to action he has wasted no time in crawling back to the top of the Power Rankings. He remains 12 points behind first place, but he has averaged 17 points in the past three weeks so odds are he will most likely be on top once more before the end of the summer.

Antagonist of the Week – Umar the Unrelenting (Review score: 6 Points/1 Appearance; 6.0 Pts/App). Umar visits Clea to congratulate her on her new position as Sorcerer Supreme, but her unexpected maternal pride is not well received by her daughter. Nevertheless, Umar helps Clea defend the Sanctum Santorum from the Blasphemy Cartel and earns her first Antagonist of the Week in her second 2022 Appearance.

Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Peter Parker (16); Clea (13); Hank Pym (11); Storm, Wolverine/James Howlett (10); Venom/Eddie Brock (9); Genis-Vell (8); Gambit, Jessica Jones (7)
