Another week, another relaunch of an X-Men title with more mutants joining new teams. But it’s not just the mutants taking up new roles. After Wilson Fisk’s retreat from New York City, Luke Cage becomes the city’s new mayor, but Misty Knight turns down his offer to lead the Thunderbolts. In Moon Knight, Tigra admits to having an allegiance to Black Panther, and in Savage Spider-Man, Baron Zemo joins up with the Immaculatum, the latest terrorist organization seeking to remake the world in their own image.
Book the Week – Legion of X #1 (Review score: 66 Points; 31 Characters). Now that Nightcrawler has formed a mutant religion, he recruits his followers to help him spread the gospel and defend his interpretation of the Three Laws of Krakoa. Characters like Pixie and Fabian Cortez carry over from the Way of X series, but are joined by new recruit Juggernaut, who is technically not a mutant but willing to be an enforcer for mutantkind. Blindfold returns to comics after her controversial death in 2019, but chooses to remain in her astral form.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 15 Points/2 Appearances; 7.5 Pts/App). After a slow start to the year, Peter Parker begins his climb back to top of the Fantasy Comic League Power Rankings. His temporary transformation into a Man-Spider in Savage Spider-Man affords him a chance to earn a few bonus powers such as Appendage and Biokinesis and helps him score his first Hero of the Week in 2022.
Antagonist of the Week – Baron Zemo (Review score: 8 Points/1 Appearance; 8.0 Pts/App). Baron Zemo is quick to abandon the savage spider when it refuses to obey his every command, but he finds new allies in the Immaculatum. But it won’t be long before he tries to cast these new allies aside at the first opportunity. The untrustworthy villain earns his second Antagonist of the Week in 2022 and is—unsurprisingly—a Save Civilian short of hitting for the cycle.
Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Peter Parker (15); Captain Carter (12); Punisher (11); Moon Knight (10); Iron Man, Luke Cage, Thor (9); Baron Zemo, Spectrum (8); Hulk/Bruce Banner, Nightcrawler, Tigra, Valkyrie (7)
