Weekly Marvel Review: May 18, 2022 (Week 20)

A handful of characters explore their identity, their heritages and their overall place in the world—or even other worlds, such as Arakko. Among the Eternals, Ajak learns that the Deviants they hunt are more favored by their Celestial gods. Druig betrays Thanos and takes his place as the new Prime Eternal and sets the stage for the Eternals upcoming conflict with the mutants. Speaking of Krakoans, Kid Omega seeks to establish a new identity by test driving different mutant husks, Hope Summers officially ascends to the Quiet Council and Magik loses her Soul Sword. Off world, Storm and Magneto recruit members for the Brotherhood of Arakko to counter Abigail Brand’s S.W.O.R.D. sponsored X-Men team.

Book the Week – Fantastic Four #43 (Review score: 75 Points; 39 Characters). The Recknoning War rages on, but the latest Fantastic Four issue focuses on the Badoon’s Battle on Earth. The mysterious aliens known as Comorant and the Helmsman take advantage of the invasion to retrieve the pieces of the Gauntlet Armor. Unfortunately for them, Doctor Doom represents the final hurdle in assembling the full suit. Sue Storm, who has been mysteriously absent the past few issues, reveals herself by coming to the aid of Uatu the Watcher and Nick Fury.

Hero of the Week – Venom/Eddie Brock (Review score: 20 Points/1 Appearance; 20.0 Pts/App). Eddie Brock gets a chance to display his investigative journalism skills and not just the symbiotic side. He outsmarts Hydro-Man for an Intellect power along with a Computer, Deception and Investigate power when making his way back into his former employer’s office at the Daily Globe. Eighteen of his 20 points come from power usages to earn him his second Hero of the Week in 2022.

Antagonist of the Week – Goblin Queen (Review score: 8 Points/1 Appearance; 8.0 Pts/App). Things are looking up for Madelyn Pryor. Following her somewhat controversial resurrection due to her clone status, she is being handed the keys to Limbo by Magik. Her 8-point performance in New Mutants also earns her her first Antagonist of the Week.

Top Characters (by review score). Venom/Eddie Brock, Wolverine/James Howlett (20); Daredevil/Elektra Natchios, Magik (15); Deadpool, Hope, Iron Man, Storm, Thor (14); Silk (11)
