Weekly Marvel Review: September 21, 2022 (Week 38)

Rules are made to be broken, and Nightcrawler breaks a major Krakoa rule at the end of the world. Despite the impending end of the world, there remains new beginnings. Boom-Boom, Jubilee and Dazzler start a new adventure together in the first X-Terminators issue. Malekith receives his freedom from Hel thanks to Carnage. Banshee reveals a new side to himself in Legion of X where he’s merged with the Spirit of Variance and aligned with Mother Righteous.

Book the Week – A.X.E.: Judgement Day #5 (Review score: 174 Points; 59 Characters). The Progenitor begins destroying the world and more than two dozen characters die. However, in a series which deals so heavily in death and resurrection, the deaths must be taken lightly. Already, before the end of the issue, one non-mutant character gets brought back to life through the mutants’ resurrection protocol. But if there’s one character to bring back to inspire the world, Nightcrawler chose right with Captain America.

Hero of the Week – Iron Man (Review score: 15 Points/2 Appearances; 7.5 Pts/App). Iron Man, who has been holding steady in the top spot throughout the year, just barely takes first place back from Wolverine. Tony is one of the few heroes to survive the Celestial’s decimation and teams with the X-Men and Eternals to strategize a new plan of action. However, the majority of his 15 points come from his heist book with Black Cat as they attempt to recover her Iron Cat suit.

Antagonist of the Week – Carnage (Review score: 8 Points/1 Appearance; 8.0 Pts/App). Carnage continues to make the most of his minimal Appearances. His 8.0 Points/Appearance is slightly lower than his 9.29 average but it’s enough to give him his fifth Antagonist of the Week title, which is two more than Doctor Octopus’ three.

Top Characters (by review score). Iron Man (15); Invisible Woman (13); Nightcrawler, The Thing (10); Human Torch, Marvel Girl, Wolverine/James Howlett, Wong (9); Boom-Boom, Carnage, Hawkeye/Clint Barton, Spider-Ham (8)
