Weekly Marvel Review: March 16, 2022 (Week 11)

In a light week, nobody registered any major Character Developments. Wolverine survives his trip down memory lane with the conclusion of the X Lives of Wolverine mini series. He gets the most notable Defeats Antagonist from the week when he cuts Omega Red in half. It’s highly unlikely that Krakoa will be in a rush to resurrect the Russian spy.  Titanium Man, another Russian agent, makes his first real appearance in about a decade and gets added to the Fantasy Comic League database.

Book the Week – The Marvels #9 (Review score: 60 Points; 19 Characters). The latest issue of the time-spanning and character-cramming Marvels title, sheds some more light on Lady Lotus’ background. Her quest to protect her homeland Siancong and its connection to the Dragonsbloom power gets more personal when she loses her two sons in a battle between the East and the West’s invading champions.

Hero of the Week – Thor (Review score: 12 Points/2 Appearances; 6.0 Pts/App). Thor faces a dark mirror of himself, one who embraced his maternal connection to the Phoenix Force. He handles the bulk of the action in the latest Avengers issue and takes out one of the Multiversal Masters of Evil and begrudgingly accepts the main Phoenix’s assistance. His second Appearance comes from one of the flashbacks seen in The Marvels.

Antagonist of the Week – Carnage (Review score: 12 Points/1 Appearance; 12.0 Pts/App). Carnage does what Carnage does best. Shows up for one Appearance and gets a dozen points. His second 12-point performance for the year gets him his second Antagonist of the Week. Acknowledging the small sample-size, Carnage’s Pts/App ratio (12.0) and Powers/App ratio (9.5) are best for Antagonists.

Top Characters (by review score). Carnage, Thor (12); Spectrum, Wolverine/James Howlett (11); Machine Man (10); Omega Red (9); Iron Man, Lady Lotus (7); Captain America, Phoenix/Maya Lopez (6)
