Spring approaches, and as such, the cycle of life and death starts anew. The Punisher gets his 13th volume and a big Character Development when his new employer, The Hand, resurrects his long-dead wife. In an alternate universe where Steve Rogers missed out on the Super Soldier Serum, Captain Peggy Carter emerges in present time after spending a few decades on ice. Eternals and mutants do not fear death, thanks to their own cycle of rebirth, but it does not stop a few recent deaths from having an impact. Phastos dies at the hands of Thanos while Banshee dies at the hands of his deceptive ex-wife Moira MacTaggert.
Book the Week – Devil’s Reign #5 (Review score: 65 Points; 19 Characters). The Kingpin regains the memory of Daredevil’s secret identity and immediately gets consumed by his hatred for the blind lawyer. Now completely disinterested in his reelection campaign, the Mayor of New York sows chaos on the streets of his city by freeing the Purple Man. While the battle between the heroes and the Thunderbolts reaches a fever pitch, Fisk travels to Matt Murdock’s apartment and murders its occupant—Matt’s “twin brother,” Mike Murdock. Unfortunately, Kirsten McDuffie arrives just in time to catch the bloody-handed mayor in action.
Hero of the Week – Thor (Review score: 19 Points/2 Appearances; 9.5 Pts/App). Fueled by his father’s sacrifice and the full-might of the Thor-Force, Thor ends his battle with the God Tempest. He travels to Nidavellir, the site of the God of Hammers’ recent massacre, and uses the heat of a billion suns to burn out the magic that bound the God Tempest to Mjolnir. For good measure he destroys his prized weapon. But sticking with the theme of the week, Angela reveals she has had it remade. And to Thor’s surprise, his father’s spirit may have yet survived within the reforged hammer.
Antagonist of the Week – Doctor Octopus (Review score: 13 Points/2 Appearances; 6.5 Pts/App). Doctor Octopus continues to prove himself Marvel’s superior antagonist in 2022. He takes his third Antagonist of the Week. He now sits more than 20 points ahead of the Kingpin when it comes to overall score—despite the Kingpin having one more Appearance than Otto. With his role in Devil’s Reign coming to an end, it remains to be seen whether Doctor Octopus can keep up this impressive performance throughout the year
