Weekly Marvel Review: March 02, 2022 (Week 09)

Antagonists unite to begin the month of March. Octavia Vermis, with assistance from Rose Roché, assembles a collection of villains who have been troubling Jess Drew in Spider-Woman. Stegron, Lady Bullseye and the Brothers Grimm join the Anti-Arach9, though there remains some confusion on the branding and member count since the Los Espadas Gemelas De Toledo count themselves as one member. To be fair, the Fantasy Comic League counts the Brothers Grimm as one unit as well. The Reckoning reveals a closer look at some of their members in Fantastic Four and the Paladins are exposed as the true villains in Captain American/Iron Man. Meanwhile, some of Orchis’ top members—Doctor Stasis, Feilong and this current version of Nimrod—get added to the Fantasy Comic League scoring database.

Book the Week – X-Men #9 (Review score: 58 Points; 21 Characters). Orchis’ ranks grow as it reveals that the latest X-Men issue reveals Abigail Brand has signed up with the villainous group. They also help free M.O.D.O.K. and recruit him to their cause. Krakoa’s Quiet Council meet to discuss how to deal with the growing threat from Orchis, while Arakko’s Council meet to discuss it’s role in the impending war between mutant, man and machine. Storm plans a side quest to rescue Redroot from Otherworld’s Crooked Market.

Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Ben Reilly (Review score: 20 Points/2 Appearances; 10.0 Pts/App). As the Beyond era enters its final chapter, Ben Reilly secures his first Hero of the Week in 2022. He gets a boost from the “Devil’s Reign” Spider-Man tie-in battling the recently returned Rose who seeks to show up his father, the Kingpin. Ben gets a Team-Up with his brother in the main Amazing Spider-Man book, and then a Save Civilian and Defeat Antagonist for stopping the Rose in the event book.

Antagonist of the Week – Veronica Eden (Review score: 7 Points/1 Appearance; 7.0 Pts/App). Veronica Eden turns out to be not so bad. She’s still bad, just not as bad as the Paladins. She gets the nod for Antagonist of the Week over Nimrod and Doctor Doom because in her one Appearance she does more than just use Powers. She Teams-Up and Leads Captain America in confronting her former love interest, the super computer Overseer.

Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Ben Reilly (20); Daredevil/Elektra Natchios, Spider-Man/Peter Parker (16); Captain America, Iron Man (13); Thing (11); Clea, Human Torch (10); Emma Frost, Gambit (8)
