Weekly Marvel Review: February 09, 2022 (Week 06)

Hunter’s Moon gets the benefit of the doubt from the Fantasy Comic League. Fresh off of his Character Development for joining the Midnight Mission, the FCL adds him to the database—despite being one appearance short of his six minimum requirement since his debut last July. But we’re banking on the fact that he makes at least one more appearance in the Moon Knight series before this summer. Ricochet, one of the members of the Slingers, becomes the next Spider-based character to join the shady Beyond corporation and gets official scores with his first appearance since 2018 in Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider.

Book of the Week – Devil’s Reign #4 (Review score: 62 Points; 24 Characters). Kingpin turns up the pressure on Daredevil now that he remembers the hero’s true identity. However, his grip on the city—and his Thunderbolts Unit—might be slipping away. The heroes continue to fight back, with Sue Storm and Reed Richards leading the captured heroes, including Moon Knight and Danny Rand, in a prison riot. But it’s his order to the Thunderbolts that puts Kingpin in a precarious situation. Rhino, one of his biggest enforcers, aids the Champions in avoiding capture and informs them that Fisk is hunting the Purple Children.

Hero of the Week – Hornet (Review score: 16 Points/1 Appearance; 16.0 Pts/App). Hobie Brown dominates the week in his second outing as the new Hornet. He breaks into a Beyond facility to help Dusk track down her missing Slinger teammate, Ricochet. In doing so he flashes an impressive array of powers, 11 in total, and gets credit for a Team-Up, a Leads Team, Save Civilian and Defeats Antagonist. That puts him a Character Development shy of hitting for the Fantasy Comic League cycle all in one book.

Antagonist of the Week – Mystique (Review score: 7 Points/1 Appearance; 7.0 Pts/App). Mystique has run into a string of bad luck. After having her wife resurrected and conniving her way into a Quiet Council chair, things have been going down hill. She loses out on killing Moira MacTaggert thanks to Cypher’s intervention, and then as predicted by Destiny, dies in an explosion while tracking Moira down. But it’s not all bad, she still gets her first Antagonist of the Week since the end of October.

Top Characters (by review score). Hornet (16); Hawkeye/Kate Bishop (11); Sunspot (10); Moira MacTaggert, Valkyrie/Jane Foster (9); Forge, Hunter’s Moon (8); Cannonball, Invisible Woman, Mystique (7)
