In a rare turn of events, two books tie for the top score. Fantastic Four gathers 24 characters to fight the Reckoning War and scores 65 total points. Thor also receives a review score of 65 while also bringing together a collection of Avengers and Fantastic Four members to aid him in his fight against the God Tempest. Other big books from the week include the latest Marvel Voices entry, Legacy, highlighting prominent Black characters and creators; that issue puts up 62 points. The X-Men battle M.O.D.O.K., a character they typically do not face, for a 47-point issue with only eight characters.
Book of the Week – Thor #22 (Review score: 65 Points; 23 Characters). Thor gets the nod for Book of the Week over Fantastic Four because it features one less character. It also has the two biggest Character Development moments from the week.(apologies Sam Wilson, Lin Lie and Jack of Hearts who took up new mantles or joined a new team). Odin sacrifices himself and relinquishes the full power of the Odin-Force to his son, who in turn gets the Character Development for beginning fully powered up by the newly named, Thor-Force.
Hero of the Week – Wolverine (Review score: 14 Points/2 Appearances; 7.0 Pts/App). Wolverine is one of the main heroes to heed Beta Ray Bill’s call to aid Thor in his fight; though he does not do much in that title except flash his claws and get credit for a Team-Up. The majority of Wolverine’s action comes from his latest X Lives of Wolverine title. While out to save Professor Xavier’s ancestry, he earns a separate Saves Civilian, and then gets a Defeats Antagonist for reliving his fight with Romulus.
Antagonist of the Week – Queen Goblin (Review score: 10 Points/1 Appearances; 10.0 Pts/App). Queen Goblin makes quickly climbs the Antagonists charts and earns her first Antagonist of the Week in just her second outing. She shows off her bloodlust and skills with the Pumpkin Scepter by killing the scientists responsible for creating her, and then unveils her signature Goblin Gaze against the Black Cat. The Goblin Gaze—a power perfect for a therapist-cum-villain—forces the Queen’s victims to doubt themselves and relive their past trauma.
Top Characters (by review score). Wolverine (14); Mr. Fantastic (13); Thor (11); Queen Goblin (10); Captain Marvel (9); Cyclops, Human Torch, Iron Man, M.O.D.O.K., Marvel Girl, Synch (8)
