Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting the big new toy at DC, The Absolute Universe. And this week we’re going to be talking about my favourite of the Absolute titles, Absolute Superman. Jason Aaron has filled this book with a righteous vengeance that can be felt in every page as it critics our modern society through the lens of Krypton’s fall. Every character beat is superb here and this is the one I rush to read every week. Rafa Sandoval puts in the quality I expect of a mainstream artist with that last name (Horacio and Gerardo say hey). And you can read the opening salvos of this story at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Absolute Superman #5, DC Vs. Vampires – World War V #7
Hero Of The Week – Unsurprisingly, Batman scores another Hero Of The Week, bringing in 22 Points over 3 Appearances. Thankfully, there’s a bit of colour for Performance Of The Week, where father/daughter duo Black Lightning and Thunder tie with 12 Point Performances. And we’re just getting started on this colourful week.
Antagonist Of The Week – After taking a sideline in recent years, are we looking at a comeback for the Red Lanterns? Their leader Atrocitus was our Antagonist Of The Week, bringing in 7 Points in a single Appearance. It’s also his entry into the League, so it really has been a quiet few years for the Red Lanterns. While it is great to see them back, here’s hoping for a meaningful Larfleeze Appearance sooner rather than later.
Book Of The Week – We continue our colourful week, as Green Lantern Corps #2 takes home Book Of The Week, bringing in 47 Points over 9 Characters, 3 of which are new additions to the League.
Power Of The Week – DC’s on a big push right now to give superheroes challenges that they can’t just punch away. Dick Grayson is trying to look out for a group of children criminals, Oliver Queen is forced to face the horrendous consequences of Queen Industries under his leadership. This week’s Power of the Week comes from one of Superman’s reformed antagonists, Major Disaster. Major Disaster challenges Superman’s status as the paragon of truth, as he’s forced to reckon with Major Disaster’s Deception as he takes the fall for his daughter’s accidental murder of someone else. It’s great stuff, going deeper than any Melee or Energy.
