Not a great week for anybody with arachnophobia. Four of the five new characters—Kraven the Hunter Spider, Night-Spider, Sun-Spider and Web Weaver—added to the Fantasy Comic League database this week are recently created Spider-heroes for the “End of the Spider-Verse” event. The fifth new character, Kaine “Scarlet Spider” Parker has not been seen since 2018, and is one of many spiders returned to the Web of Life and Destiny. In non-spider news, Captain America becomes the third character to break 100 points this year, joining Spider-Man and Iron Man.
Book the Week – Spider-Man #7 (Review score: 48 Points; 27 Characters). Peter Parker may have delivered the final blow on Shathra, but Silk assumes the role as the new “Chosen One” of the Spider-Verse. With Shathra’s defeat, Araña uses the Totem Dagger to bring Spider-Woman and others back to reality. That includes new character, Spider-Boy, a young hero with a mysterious connection to the Spider-Family that no one seems to remember.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 16 Points/3 Appearances; 5.33 Pts/App). Spider-Man turns to his friends for help in a desperate attempt to rescue Mary Jane from Wayep’s dimension, but his allies are slow to trust him due to his involvement in an unexplained explosion outside of York, Pennsylvania. He’s forced on the run and to trust an unexpected ally in Norman Osborn.
Antagonist of the Week – Rhino (Review score: 5 Points/1 Appearances; 5.0 Pts/App). Rhino signs up to be one of Kingpin’s enforcers in Las Vegas, but their gamble on taking over casino boss Michael Berengetti’s territory seems to be a bust. Not many antagonists can drive the Hulk through a wall, but the Rhino is as good a bet as any to accomplish the task and delivers a few good blows on Joe Fixit, Berengetti’s strongman.
Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Peter Parker (16); Ghost-Spider (11); Iron Man (10); Captain America/Steve Rogers, Thor (9); Scarlet Witch (8); Dryad, Gambit, The Rider (6); Hulk, Maverick; Rhino (5)
