Cerebella, Escapade and Scout receive a promotion when they graduate from the Lost Club and officially join the New Mutants in the new Lethal Legion series. The upgrade leads to the former two finally being counted in the Fantasy Comic League scoring system. Elsewhere on Krakoa, the X-Men receive an unwelcome visitor when Kingpin arrives seeking asylum through his mutant wife, Typhoid Mary. Meanwhile, Wakanda dismisses one of its most public figures by exiling T’Challa at the end of the latest Black Panther series.
Book the Week – Avengers #66 (Review score: 64 Points; 24 Characters). As the battle at the God Quarry rages, the collected Avengers from across the multiverse receive help from some late arrivals against Doom Supreme’s army of variants. Ka-Zar and Gorilla Man, two of Black Panther’s Agents of Wakanda, return to action and bring even more unexpected allies. Ka-Zar, the new Herald of Galactus, leads his master to his next meal: Doom the Living Planet. Gorilla Man, along with Ursa Major, brings the Avengers’ former headquarters, now a Deathlok-enhanced Progenitor.
Hero of the Week – Talon (Review score: 16 Points/2 Appearances; 8.0 Pts/App). Laura Kinney, the “original” one returned from a lifetime in the Vault, may currently be going by the name Talon, but she will always be remembered as X-23. She receives a new title, X-23: Deadly Regenesis, a new series set during the X-Men’s “Utopia” days when Laura was a key member of X-Force.
Antagonist of the Week – Mephisto (Review score: 12 Points/1 Appearance; 12.0 Pts/App). Mephisto used the Multiversal Masters of Evil for his own gain, to reach the God Quarry and distract the Avengers. He also used the Council of Red to further his own goals, a goal they thought they all shared. In the latest Avengers, Mephisto betrays and attacks the Council, consuming several of his variants to become an even bigger threat to the assembled Avengers.
