Allegiances are put to the test this week. To prove his allegiance, Black Panther shares his secret Killswitch plans with Captain America, Captain Marvel and Thor. Though he contents his intentions were noble, his teammates are not as willing to forgive his secret recordings. Several mutants, particularly the Hellions, question Firestar’s worthiness to be an X-Man given her past alliances with other superhero teams, including the Avengers.
Book the Week – X-Men Annual #1 (Review score: 90 Points; 16 Characters). Firestar volunteers to investigate a disruption in the Krakoan drug trade while the rest of the team tackles more threatening matters. With Cyclops tagging along on the goodwill mission, Firestar runs into Whirlwind, a familiar foe from her Avengers days and proves her devotion to Krakoa and mutantdom. Marvel Girl and the remaining X-members take down Harrower and Bi-Beast before rescuing Mojo from a conflict of his own making.
Hero of the Week – Firestar (Review score: 13 Points/1 Appearance; 13.0 Pts/App). Firestar’s spotlight in the X-Men Annual issue accounts for 13 points, nearly a quarter of her total points for the year in her 12 Appearances. She scores 10 power usages, bumping her power disparity up to an even dozen.
Antagonist of the Week – Green Goblin (Review score: 6 Points/1 Appearance; 6.0 Pts/App). Norman Osborn’s path to redemption continues, but until that time he still qualifies as an Antagonist and takes his second superlative of the year. In his “Dark Web” tie-in, the Gold Goblin faces off with Queen Goblin, otherwise known as Dr. Ashley Kafka, the unwilling recipient of Osborn’s past sins.
