Peter Parker has had a rough year. He began the year in a coma with Ben Reilly taking his place as the main web-swinger for three months. Now, Ben leads a demonic invasion from Limbo to seek revenge on Parker in Dark Web. But that’s not the only problem plaquing Peter. The Spider-Verse is threatened by Shathra’s Hive in Spider-Man, with many key allies having already fallen under her control. To make it worse, Peter Parker gets stabbed by the Totem Dagger, unraveling him from the Web of Life. This further unravels his chances of repeating his performance as Marvel’s Top Hero for the year.
Book the Week – Avengers #63 (Review score: 77 Points; 18 Characters). For the third week in a row, an Avengers book takes the Book of the Week title. The main Avengers team-up with the prehistoric Avengers for an explosive battle with the Multiversal Masters of Evil. Doom Supreme struck first, eliminating the prehistoric Starbrand, but the Ghost Rider of 1,000,000 B.C. evens the odds eliminating the Berserker and the Ghost Goblin. However, he sacrifices himself to save Earth’s primitive inhabitants from Doom Supreme’s toxic spell. The Avengers look to get a boost in the next chapter as Firehair, the Phoenix, races toward Earth to join the fight.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Miles Morales (Review score: 19 Points/2 Appearances; 9.0 Pts/App). Miles Morales has been in a unique position in the prime Marvel Universe since the end of 2015’s “Secret Wars” event. He belongs to both the Ultimate Universe and the prime Marvel Universe, and that special position allows him to resist Shathra’s control after being infected in the previous Spider-Man issue. The majority of his points (16) come from his second Appearance in the first issue of his new series. This earns him his third Hero of the Week for the year.
Antagonist of the Week – Vulcan (Review score: 13 Points/1 Appearance; 13.0 Pts/App). Vulcan, the oft-forgotten Summers brother and former despotic ruler of the Shi’ar Empire, earns his first Antagonist of the Week in an X-Men: Red fiery outburst. Even though he is an unwitting pawn of Abigail Brand, he sets his sights on reclaiming his throne, but is deceived by Sunspot. He does manage to put down Gladiator before heading into another showdown with another cosmic ruler, Storm, the Regent of Sol.
