The Progenitor is not the only character passing judgment in the comics this summer. Captain Britain serves as the judge, jury and executioner in the finale to Knights of X. Having defeated Merlyn’s uprising, Betsy summarily kills Merlyn in the Starlight Citadel. The Progenitor delivers his first positive judgement to Cyclops, who, trust to character, declares he doesn’t need the Celestial’s approval. Trying to earn a positive PR win, Mayor Luke Cage reforms the Thunderbolts, tabbing Hawkeye as the field leader, to rebrand the team after Kingpin’s team of villains in “Dark Reign.”
Book the Week – Knights of X #5 (Review score: 117 Points; 32 Characters). Following Gambit’s death in Otherworld, his Knights of X teammates were concerned he’d face the same twisted fate as others who perished in the foreign realm. However, with the power of the Siege Perilous and the love of his wife, Gambit returns seemingly unchanged. The Knights of X then proceed to win the war against Merlyn after reopening the way into Otherworld and joining with the X-Men, the Legionnaires and several other mutants eager to join the fray.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 22 Points/2 Appearances; 11 Pts/App). Spider-Man’s fourth Hero of the Week performance ties him with Thor for the most on the year. He also enters striking distance for his top character status, trailing Iron Man by just seven points. Spider-Man dominates in the Amazing Fantasy milestone issue with 16 of his 22 points coming from that title with the rest coming from the Fortnite X Marvel book, which he shares with his top challengers, Iron Man and Wolverine.
Antagonist of the Week – Kraven (Review score: 8 Points/1 Appearance; 8.0 Pts/App). Kraven, the Last Son, earns his first Antagonist of the Week, though he tied with Doctor Doom. The hunter earns the nod because he successfully defeated Deadpool in his X-Force appearance. He currently stands as the 12th top antagonist with a strong 5.0 Points/Appearance ratio. Doctor Doom deserves an honorable mention, despite running from his antagonists in Fortnite X Marvel, because his eight points moves him ahead of Doctor Octopus as the year’s top antagonist.
