Weekly Marvel Review: May 04, 2022 (Week 18)

May, the month of the Multiverse, begins with a new member of the Multiversal Masters of Evil meeting the six appearance minimum within a year. Despite the latest Avengers Forever title featuring Doom Supreme, the majority of the Avengers’ antagonists remain one appearance short from inclusion in the Fantasy Comic League scoring database. With their war heating up, Doom and his allies should hit the milestone before the summer is over.

Book the Week – Free Comic Book Day 2022: Avengers/X-Men #1 (Review score: 48 Points; 18 Characters). The big summer event features the Avengers mediating a war between the Eternals and X-Men, with the former group judging the latter on their excess deviation. In typical Free Comic Book Day fashion, Marvel previews the upcoming conflict in one of its free offerings. The other preview offered in the book sees Moira MacTaggert capturing Mary Jane Watson in an attempt to infiltrate the mutant’s next Hellfire Gala.

Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Miguel O’Hara (Review score: 15 Points/1 Appearance; 15.0 Pts/App). If there’s one thing we know about the Multiverse it’s that it’s infinite, spawning alternate timelines of alternate timelines and so on. A prime example of that is the Miguel O’Hara featured in the current 2099 Exodus story is a variation of the more well-known Miguel O’Hara of the proper 2099 timeline, that one having been destroyed before the 2015’s “Secret Wars” event. Regardless, Neuva Miguel makes an impact and earns his first Hero of the Week to kick off his mini series event.

Antagonist of the Week – Korvac (Review score: 5 Points/1 Appearance; 5.0 Pts/App). Despite his life long quest for power beyond that of a normal human, Michael Korvac comes face-to-face with a humbled Tony Stark but can’t bring himself to destroy his rival. On the contrary, Korvac reconnects with his own humanity and spares the helpless Tony.

Top Characters (by review score). Spider-Man/Miguel O’Hara (15); Black Panther (13); Iron Man (12); Chasm, Thunderbird (11); Spider-Man/Peter Parker (10); Mr. Fantastic, Thor (8); Captain America, Invisible Woman (7)
