Wilson Fisk’s grip on New York City—and the heroes who call it home—tightens. Meanwhile, Black Cat’s grasp on reality—and the woman bonded to the Reality Stone—loosens. The Infinity Heist story ends with the revelation that Felicia gathered three of the Infinity Stone hosts to rid her mother of cancer, but Nick Fury, Jr., Nighthawk and Star all have plans of their own. In the latest Death of Doctor Strange tie-in, Blade plays right into Dracula’s hands in eliminating the vampire lord’s rivals. The finale to Hellions sees Nanny embrace Orphan-Maker in his banishment to Krakoa’s Pit.
Book the Week – Devil’s Reign #1 (Review score: 89 Points; 25 Characters). Kingpin does not seem to learn from the past. The failure of the Superhuman Registration Act and the more recent Kamala’s Law does not stop New York’s Mayor from outlawing super heroics within his city. To help enforce this law he enlists various villains to his Thunderbolt Units and wastes no time in arresting Moon Knight and Darkhawk. As expected, Captain America, both Spider-Men and both Daredevils are at the center of the resistance. Luke Cage and Tony Stark make important statements about leadership.
Hero of the Week – Captain America (Review score: 18 Points/2 Appearances; 9.0 Pts/App). Friends, teammates, adversaries. Captain America and Iron Man have been many things to each other, but now they are coheadliners in a new series. A new threat from Hydra brings Captain America to back up Iron Man as Tony Stark seeks to fix a potential mistake from his past. With these two appearances and the year quickly coming to a close, Captain America now stands 17-points ahead of Wolverine for the second best performance of the year. His fifth Hero of the Week title is second only to Spider-Man, as well.
Antagonist of the Week – Doctor Octopus (Review score: 16 Points/2 Appearances; 8.0 Pts/App). Since returning to his old villainous ways, Doctor Octopus still displays some compassionate moments. For the second time in the past few months, Otto Octavius saves Peter Parker’s life. This time, it’s at the request of his former fiancée, May Parker. However, he’s not quick to forget his roots by threatening those he views his inferiors—which is everybody—and teaming up with the Kingpin in order to gain access to Reed Richard’s laboratory.
Top Characters (by review score). Captain America (18); Doctor Octopus (16); Black Cat, Iron Man, Spider-Man/Miles Morales, Star (13); Blade (11); Deadpool, Juggernaut (10), Brawn, Ms. America (9)
