The new creative team behind the Beyond era of Amazing Spider-Man takes the reigns with issue 75. Apart from putting Ben Reilly back in the starring role and sidelining Peter Parker for the time being, they also bring Colleen Wing back to comics for her first appearance in two years. Kieron Gillen continues to set the stage for the upcoming Eternals Marvel Cinematic Universe film with another one shot. Eternals: Celestial features Ajax and Makkari ahead of their cinematic introductions and they get included in the Fantasy Comic League database.
Book the Week – Excalibur #24 (Review score: 51 Points; 14 Characters). Merlyn heralds the return of King Arthur who wages the Witchbreed War against Excalibur and the other mutants of Otherworld. But that’s not stopping the members of Excalibur from operating throughout the foreign realm. Gambit peddles wares from the main world and runs afoul of Mad Jim Jaspers in the Crooked Market; Jubilee considers the benefits and heartbreak of leaving Shogo with Lady Roma to train in a more familiar world.
Hero of the Week – Ms. Marvel (Review score: 17 Points/2 Appearances; 8.5 Pts/App). The latest run of the Champions—and the end of the “Outlawed” concept—comes to an end with issue 10 after Ms. Marvel and her teammates helped overthrow Roxxon and Kamala’s Law. Her supporting role in the current Captain Marvel series helps Kamala get her first Hero of the Week title of the year.
Antagonist of the Week – Kang (Review score: 7 Points/1 Appearance; 7.0 Pts/App). Kang finds himself in the top five antagonists, passing past Kingpin and Kindred. In his latest appearance, he aligns himself with Conan in the barbarian’s battle against Kulan Gath. The master of time invites Conan into his timeless armory, home to Marvel’s most impressive weapons and artifacts, and sends him off to see the wizard.
