Despite what the X-Men may lead you to believe, you can’t cheat death. The Champions feel the repercussions of their deal with the devil as Mephisto’s son Blackheart pits the team of young heroes against each other. Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales and Brawn return after their short hiatus to find their former teammates under the sway of Blackheart. The original Champions face off with the new Champions in the Top Book of the Week with a review score of 48 points. Another team book featuring a team all too familiar with death follows behind with 38. Savage Avengers team members Conan and Doctor Voodoo were already on death’s door in this series, and Elektra and Wolverine have their own histories with resurrections. The assemblage of antiheroes kill the Marrow God before splitting up and closing out the first arc of their series.
The X-Men, not to be out done when it comes to death, score the Top Event Book of the Week with the bloody next chapter of House of X. The team’s suicide mission to prevent the activation of the Mother Mold turns out to be just that. While Cyclops’ team of mutants succeeds in dropping the robot into the sun, they all die on their dangerous quest. M, Nightcrawler and Wolverine are among the victims of the fateful trip in the 40-point book. Frank Castle appears again in another featured book for the week when he teams up with Black Widow, Danny Ketch, Moon Knight and Night Thrasher to take the fight to Baron Zemo and his Thunderbolts. Punisher nets a review score of 44 points to earn the Top Solo Book of the Week.
