Happy Birthday, Marvel! The legendary publishing company takes a break from the Carnage being wreaked across their landscape to celebrate their 80 years of existence. They top their birthday cake with a 80-page comic book highlighting important Marvel moments with a page dedicated to each year and top creators from their history. It loosely follows a tale of Jimmy Woo researching the journey of the Eternity Mask over the years. Ninety-three characters, only a fraction of the hundreds of characters in their stable, appear for a total of 192 points in the Top Book of the Week. It includes some lesser known characters such as Night Raven and the original Black Knight, but left out some big characters including Black Widow and Clint Barton.
One character left out of the anniversary issue, despite his rising star status since his debut in 2018, the Cosmic Ghost Rider appears in the Top Team Book of the Week to torment the Avengers. Johnny Blaze, the King of Hell, unleashes an army of Ghost Riders and challenges the current Spirit of Vengeance, Robbie Reyes, to a race. The rest of the Avengers must deal with a possessed Celestial and put up a score of 43 points. One of Marvel’s biggest events in recent time, War of the Realms, also fails to receive a mention in the Marvel #1000 book, but it receives another epilogue in the Top Solo Title of the Week, Thor. The new All-Father skips his celebration to help citizens of the Nine Realms, while a host of his supporting characters are given new jobs and prepare them for their life after Jason Aaron. In the 33-point book, Black Panther joins the Congress of Worlds and Balder the Brave joins the League of Realms.
