Weekly Marvel Review: July 3, 2019 (Week 27)

The Marvel heroes have recently freed themselves from Malekith’s war and now it’s time for the mutants to free themselves from Legion’s mental imprisonment. The “Age of X-Men” event has taken a backseat to “War of the Realms” the past few weeks, but now the last issue of Prisoner X takes the top Event Book of the Week with 45 review points. Bishop, Polaris and the other leading characters take the fight directly to Legion while Anole and Armor lead the other recently incarcerated students take part in the prison riot. The next biggest event book from the week belongs to the first part of the “Prodigal Sun” mini. The Fantastic Four kick off the event with 29 point first issue.

The Uncanny X-Men continue their prominence as the top Marvel team. The current series races to its conclusion and receives 64 points for 17 characters, including two who join the ranks of the recently departed. Uncanny X-Men takes the top Book of the Week honors. A common theme of villains presenting themselves as heroes runs through two books which tie for the top Solo Book of the Week. In the Annual for Ms. Marvel, the Super-Skrull poses as a hero and takes down other bad guys such as Constrictor and White Rabbit, while Baron Zemo and Kingpin reform the Thunderbolts in an effort to stop the Punisher’s return to New York City. Both books earn a review score of 23.
