Here comes the bride! Kitty Bryde that is. The X-Wedding event of this generation is racing to its climax, but first Kitty needs to save her groom. Kitty leads her Gold team of X-Men into space to save Colossus and leads the drafted Fantasy Comic League heroes in the power rankings. The 12-point performance is Kitty’s first “Hero of the Week” title since the first week of the year. Another union (one not as pleasant) takes the focus in second place. The totally awesome Hulk is struggling with his bond with the darker urges of the Hulk persona in his own book. Amadeus puts up 11 points throughout three comics, including Incredible Hulk which produced 27 points for seven drafted heroes.
Several of the Hulk’s teammates are on scene in his book trying to contain his darker urges, while other heroes are present to put him down if necessary. Miles Morales and Black Panther are two of those characters that appear in Hulk. They both score 10 points for a third place tie. Ms. Marvel is another Champion to show up in support of Hulk, but her and her teammates also appear in the milestone Invincible Iron Man issue. She stretches out eight points across three books for fifth place.
A five-way tie rounds out the top heroes for the week, highlighted by Brian Michael Bendis’ final comic for Marvel. Not only does Bendis return Tony Stark to his suit before he leaves the company, the long time Marvel scribe brings back Stark’s good friend and brother in armor, James Rhodes. Tony scores seven points, as does Falcon in his own title and Sabretooth in Weapon X, despite his first field mission as leader going south. Peter Parker, with a guest spot in Doctor Strange, and Storm, being a good bridesmaid to Kitty in two X-books, round out the top heroes.
Colossus, the groom-to-be, continues to under perform in a month many expected him to play a significant role. At least being kidnapped is a better excuse for being late to your own wedding than second guessing yourself!
Hero and power usages are a combination of all Fantasy Comic League divisions. League participants should cross-reference the official points with their hero roster and drafted powers for their heroes’ scores.
