Weekly Marvel Review: May 9, 2018 (Week 19)

After a six week ‘dry spell,’ Peter Parker perches himself at the top of the Fantasy Comic League power rankings once more. Spider-Man leaves the rest of the characters in the dust when he puts up 23 points across four books. His performance sets a new top weekly score for the year. Domino helps the six-time “Hero of the Week” when Peter swings through the book to save the lucky mercenary. Much like in their team-up book, Deadpool, Spidey’s self-proclaimed best friend, follows Peter Parker wherever he goes. Wade Wilson takes second place with a distant 16 points. Deadpool shows how far he’s willing to go to prove his love for Spider-Man when it’s revealed he had shared his blood with a dying Spider-Man in the Spider-Man/Deadpool book. Something he likely will not be forgetting anytime soon, in contrast to the events of his Despicable Deadpool milestone issue. In issue 300, Deadpool wipes his mind of all his recent heinous actions, but not before he pays back writer Gerry Duggan for all that pain.

Duggan’s final issue of Deadpool stands out as the top book of the week with 33 points registered by the drafted heroes. Ms. Marvel is one of those gathered heroes trying to bring down the suicidal Deadpool. Kamala earns 10 points and third place. Domino lucks into a fourth-place finish with eight points in her own book and ties with Venom who is experiencing a bit of bad luck in the relaunch of his own title.

It seems that heroes banding together to bring down their one-time allies is a theme for the week. Iron Man and Captain America take part in the Deadpool hunt and score seven points. They tie for sixth with a rampaging Hulk, who is also being pursued by his friends, and with Blink who continues to recruit allies across the multiverse. Magik and Thor round out the top heroes for the week with six points each.

Rogue highlights the bottom of the power rankings as her streak of 18 consecutive weekly appearances comes to an end.

Hero and power usages are a combination of all Fantasy Comic League divisions. League participants should cross-reference the official points with their hero roster and drafted powers for their heroes’ scores.
