Help Support The Heroes We Love: One of my favorite aspects of comic book reading is the fact that you often can’t just follow one series to get a full story anymore. Most stories are told over a collection of Miniseries, or two On-Going series that bleed into one another. This is obviously very new reader friendly and so this month we’ll be focused on highlighting some of the new offshoots of pre-existing Series. This week we’re going to highlight the delightful Trinity: Daughter Of Wonder Woman by Tom King. This is the sister Series to his Wonder Woman On-Going, and it’s a much less somber place. It’s another timey wimey series, with 3 Trinitys breaking the Time Stream to find Corgi versions of Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne. If you were looking for a successor to Peter Tomasi’s excellent Super-Sons series, then look no further. And you can read the opening salvos of the story at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Absolute Superman #9, Batman – Gotham by Gaslight – A League for Justice #1
Hero Of The Week – We had a titanic showdown between the Bat-Family and the Super-Family for both Hero Of The Week and Performance Of The Week. First off, Performance came down to a brawl between Jason Todd (12 Points) and Kara Danvers (15). As if that super trouncing wasn’t enough, Clark Kent went on to bring in 21 Points over 2 Appearances, while Bruce could only bring in 18. So both Hero and Performance Of The Week went to the Super-Family.
Antagonist Of The Week – Antagonist Of The Week also came down to a battle, but this one actually occurred within the panels. Despero and Poison Ivy duked it out for top spot, but Antagonist Of The Week went to Despero, who brought in 13 Points in a single Appearance.
Book Of The Week – Jeremy Adams runs the Green Lantern corner of the DC Universe much like a cartoon series, and this has often been a boon for the Series. Green Lantern Corps #6 decides to check in on it’s large core cast of characters, granting it Book Of The Week status as it brings in 60 Points over 10 Characters. That’s a nice Points per Appearance average, so it’s clear Adams is making use of his cast well.
Power Of The Week – One of my favorite cheat uses of a Power in the Fantasy Comic League hierarchy is a power I broke to create more scoring opportunities for Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing. Our Champions of the Green use Plants a lot, and often times, 3 opportunities is not enough to score for them (Plants, Plant Defensive, and Plants Offensive). So I bent the GROW power to acknowledge the more green thumb like uses of their powers. This week Mogo, the planet sized Green Lantern, scored GROW as a visual way to show his healing process (he had already scored Heal earlier in the issue).
