Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting series that have come to a conclusion in the back half of 2024. This week we’re highlighting Blue Beetle by Josh Trujillo and Adrian Gutierrez. This Series, and the Miniseries that predated it, have done a great job with defining Jaime Reyes and Victoria Kord, launching around the same time as the Blue Beetle film that starred both. Unfortunately, that star power didn’t go far enough, as the series will be concluding next month with Issue #11. And you can read the first ten issues of this series at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Batman: Dark Age #4, Zatanna: Bring Down The House #2
Hero Of The Week – While the other weeks of July have had a real Alien focus in the awards. the final week brings us back to Earth, and Gotham in particular. Both Batman and Nightwing brought in 19 Points, but Dick did in 2 Appearances to score Hero Of The Week. And his Partner-In-Crime, Boston Brand, took Performance Of The Week with a 10 Point Appearance.
Antagonist Of The Week – One of my favorite recurring themes of Absolute Power is that Amanda Waller still can’t quite manage to grab an Antagonist Of The Week despite a bring boost in her profile. Both Amanda and Victor Fries brought in 8 Points, but Mr. Freeze did it in 2 Appearances to score Antagonist Of The Week.
Book Of The Week – After making a couple more additions to the scoring members of the Flash family last issue, it gave the Title a push to score Book Of The Week. The Flash #11 brought in 66 Points over 20 Characters.
Power Of The Week – We’;re got a comedic focus this week, with Nightwing’s use of Projectile against Azrael in Detective Comics #1087, pushing his luck against a fellow former Batman. With Azrael’s latest Writer (Dan Watters) taking over Nightwing soon, I hope we see more between the pairing.
