Black Lightning has returned to a leading role, with his first Ongoing since 2018. The new Black Lightning is brought to us by Brandon Thomas, who had an excellent runs with both Aquamen, Jackson Hyde and Arthur Curry. He is joined by artist Fico Ossio, who cut his teeth at DC with Mister Miracle and Action Comics. The new Series centers Jefferson in both his family dynamics and also the larger DC Universe. Hero Of The Week – Despite getting his first on-going in over 5 years, Black Lightning fell just short of both Hero and Performance Of The Week. Instead, Damian Wayne stole both, with a singular 13 Point Appearance. It is nice to see other Bat-Family members taking the lead in light of DC’s All In Initiative.
Antagonist Of The Week – The Green Lantern title is on fire right now, which is unsurprising given Jeremy Adams’ pen. Both of our top Antagonists are found in that title, with Varron, the Star Shroud going up against Sinestro, the Red Lantern. While I wish it was Sinestro taking Antagonist Of The Week after his amazing performance, unfortunately it goes to Varron, who scored 1 Point higher with a 12 Point Appearance.
Book Of The Week – Jeremy Adams can make Event level stories without any tie-ins or crossovers. The One Minute War during his Flash run was a great example of this, but Green Lantern #17 is a space epic moving at a breakneck pace. It took Book Of The Week, with 95 Points over 16 Characters. What is truly impressive is how much time each of those 16 Characters are given a moment to shine in twenty pages.
Power Of The Week – Did you read any of the previous sections? We’re talking about Green Lantern again, and this week we’re highlighting Sinestro’s use of INFLUENCE on Mogo to clear the corruption inside it. The man flew into a giant planet, a burning raging star in the sky, and then absorbed the rage out of his opponent to save the day. Such a great beat in a stellar issue.
