Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting a sort of Years End for DC’s 2023 Year. DC managed to increase their output a significant amount from the prior year, while managing to distance many new and on-going Titles from the Greater Gotham Area. Nowhere feels ever entirely divorced from the Bat when you’re in the house he built and that would be felt in our 2023 Artistic Awards. 2023’s Artist of The Year is Bruno Redondo, the primary artist on Nightwing. Redondo constantly plays with the Story-Telling format of comics. Last year he did a One-Shot comics in Nightwing #87 and this year he followed it up with a first person comic in Nightwing #105. You can read Bruno’s stellar work on Nightwing and this week’s Harley Quinn: Black + White + Redder #6 at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions- Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong #3
Hero Of The Week- This week had some remarkable Performances in it, almost all of which could be found in The Flash family centric Beast World tie-in comic. But none ran faster than Barry Allen, who scored Performance Of The Week with a 17 Point Appearance. Unfortunately, one Appearance was not enough to best Batman, who took Hero Of The Week with 27 Points brought in over 4 Appearances.
Antagonist Of The Week – The Queen of DC Villains manages to claim one last Antagonist Of The Week award in 2023. Poison Ivy brought in 10 Points in a singular Appearance.
Book Of The Week- So the Book Of The Week this week is perhaps my favorite stand-alone DC issue of 2023. Titans: Beast World Tour – Central City #1 brought in 127 Points over 11 Characters, but it’s how they did that was remarkable. Almost every character was given a unique role to play, which helped these 11 Speedsters stand out from one another. The Flash Family fought this battle with hope and ingenuity and that has propelled them to being my favorite corner of the DC Universe.
