Monthly Marvel Preview: April 2022

A few comics March into April after a couple delays pushed their release back. Books such as the Devil’s Reign finale and a few X-Men titles including the X-Force Annual and the first issue of the Marauders new series release in the new month. Marauders isn’t the only new series on the horizon for the mutants as a slew of other titles relaunch with new names.

New Series: Captain Kate Pryde’s new Marauders crew launches with two issues in April, as does X-Men: Red, which sees Storm, Magneto and Sunspot stand against Abigail Brand’s plans for the Red Planet. Knights of X picks up where Excalibur left off in Otherworld with Captain Britain, Gambit, Rictor and new member Prestige. Legion of X continues Nightcrawler and Legion’s story from Way of X with Pixie and Juggernaut tagging along. Mutant adjacent mercenary Deadpool, gets a republishing of his Bad Blood graphic novel in serialized format with two issues dropping and guest starring Domino.

Fresh off of Devil’s Reign, Elektra gets a special #100 issue. Peter Parker returns to take over the main double-shipping Amazing Spider-Man title in the latest volume, featuring the return of artist John Romita Jr. Alt-reality character Spider-Punk gets his own miniseries. The new dueling Captain America titles begin with a #0 issue featuring both Steve Rogers, the Sentinel of Liberty, and Sam Wilson, the Symbol of Truth.

Events and Annuals: With the conclusion of Devil’s Reign expect big things from the event’s big players including both Daredevils, the Kingpin and Luke Cage, the only ones credited in the Appearance estimates. However, other street level heroes, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four are good bets for surprise cameos since they have turned up throughout the event. The Fantastic Four’s own event pits “Brother Against Brother” when Mr. Fantastic and the Thing faceoff during the “Reckoning War.”

Captain Marvel finds herself in space jail with the Starjammers for her Annual. X-Force’s Annual, led by Wolverine, Domino, and Kid Omega, challenge Orchis. Other one shots include Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares and Giant-Size X-Men: Thunderbird. The five-part crossover event Hulk vs. Thor: Banner of War celebrates the 60th Anniversary of both characters and kicks off with an Alpha title.

Final Issues: The Thing miniseries comes to an end with a guest appearance by Doctor Doom. Black Panther Legends closes with the Fantastic Four paying a visit to Wakanda at the young king’s request. Ms. Marvel’s Beyond the Limit mini comes to an end with Hope Van Dyne continuing her cameo appearance..

A few characters who are expected to make at least one appearance but not included in the below estimates include Carnage, Conan, the Eternals, Maestro, Nighthawk and X-Statix.

Appearance estimates, based on comic solicitations and cover artwork provided by the Marvel Database wiki, are meant as a guideline and not an indication of a specific draft order.
