Marvel ends the year on an eventful note. Out of the four books released, two are the latest issues of the ongoing events, one is a one-shot title showcasing the upcoming events, and the other is Amazing Spider-Man, which is basically an event book that releases on a near weekly basis.
Book the Week – Devil’s Reign #2 (Review score: 55 Points; 19 Characters). Kingpin’s quest to outlaw superheroes in New York continues with characters like Spider-Man and Iron Fist falling to his Thunderbolt units. Now equipped with the power of the Purple Man, Kingpin’s control of New York will come down to who is more influential: him or Luke Cage? Steve Rogers, Miles Morales and Matt Murdock convince Tony Stark that Luke should be the one to run for Mayor or New York and challenge Fisk’s reign over the city.
Hero of the Week – Doctor Strange (Review score: 6 Points/1 Appearance; 6.0 Pts/App). One of the biggest mysteries of 2021 gets solved before the year ends. Classic Doctor Strange solves his murder and names his killer, Kaecilius. Now the gathered heroes and mystics just need to solve the problem of the Three Mothers with one issue left dropping in the new year.
Antagonist of the Week – Kang (Review score: 12 Points/1 Appearance; 12.0 Pts/App). Who better to preview the upcoming new year than Kang the master of time? Timeless tells a one-off story of Kang taking a super villain historian on a trip through time to prove his superiority to Doctor Doom. He winds up coming across a Reed Richards driven mad by the Infinity Stones that threatens the existence of the prime timeline by trying to return his dead timeline to life.
Top Characters (by review score). Kang (12); Doctor Strange (6); Spider-Man/Ben Reilly, Taskmaster, Whiplash (5); Captain America (4)
