Only in comics can a character who is dead, or in a coma, or suffering severe neck trauma, can still rake in the points and place in the top performances of the week. Despite a whole series focused on the Death of Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme tops the top performances with four appearances on the week. Peter Parker remains in a coma in the Amazing Spider-Man, but he also notches four appearances. Iron Man comes in behind them with three appearances for 12 points all while dealing with a broken neck in his main title. It helps that he has a super powered suit sustaining him and—as of his latest issue—a portion of the power cosmic.
Book the Week – X-Force: Killshot Anniversary Special #1 (Review score: 44 Points; 15 Characters). Limiting Rob Liefield’s latest Marvel story to just 15 characters may seem a bit disingenuous because it features numerous version of past and present X-Force team members. Cable rallies different versions of characters such as Deadpool, Domino for a climatic battle with Stryfe, and he even brings in the Thing to clobber his nemesis. The book also focuses on the return of Major X, Liefield’s latest gun-totting antihero.
Hero of the Week – Doctor Strange (Review score: 20 Points/4 Appearances; 5.0 Pts/App). Doctor Strange is dead, long live Doctor Strange—at least for a week. That’s how long the classic Doctor Strange has been called forth to help solve his future-self’s murder. Considering this past Doctor Strange comes from his past he remains earning points as the main Doctor Strange. In other titles, he is rallying and debriefing the Avengers on threats in Hulk and Black Panther’s first issues in their new titles. His fourth appearance comes in the conclusion of the latest Symbiote Spider-Man title.
Antagonist of the Week – Karnilla (Review score: 10 Points/1 Appearance; 10.0 Pts/App). Karnilla’s rampage in Symbiote Spider-Man comes to an end when some eternal elder gods, Odin and Zarus, join forces. However, before her defeat she managed to hold her own (and then some) against major powerhouse characters Hulk and Ikaris.
Top Characters (by review score). Doctor Strange (20); Thor (18); Hawkeye/Kate Bishop (16); Spider-Man/Peter Parker (14); Black Panther, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Wolverine (13); Iron Man (12); Captain America, Karnilla, Spirit Rider (10)
