Monthly Marvel Preview: September 2021

Doom And Gloom: This is a month of conclusions, while a few new events and series rise up to fill their places. First up is The Last Annihilation, which spotlights the battle weary Emperor Hulkling and pulls Wakanda into the mix before concluding this month in Guardians Of The Galaxy. Extreme Carnage also wraps, bringing Flash Thompson and Andi Benton against the remnants of the Carnage symbiote.

Next we bid farewell to Nick Spencer’s Amazing Spider-Man, with the conclusion of Sinister War, and a 90 page finale to his run. His 74 issue run was accompanied by many supporting miniseries, one-shots, and giant sized specials. We also bid a final farewell to Jason Aaron’s Thor run, as his 19 issue run with Jane Foster as Valkyrie comes to a close.

I would say it’s not all doom and gloom with the cancelations, but the new additions are pretty dark. Doctor Strange joins Wanda in the deathly plane, as Death Of Doctor Strange kicks off. Scarlet Witch pairs up with another Doctor, Victor Von Doom, to unleash a darkness over the world in the Darkhold Event. Meanwhile, everything burns at Krakoa with the launch of Inferno and the Event conclusion to Way of X, The Onslaught Revelation.

Finally, The Fantastic Four celebrate their 60th Anniversary with a 90 page special that pulls in the various iterations of the team together for a fight against a union of Kang variants, as well as a guest appearance in Shang-Chi. Also of note, Doctor Doom is getting around. He’s currently involved with The Last Annihilation and Darkhold Events, guest-starring in Excalibur, lingering in Fantastic Four, and he’s teased for a big entrance in Savage Avengers.

Concluding Series: Non-Stop Spider-Man (5 Issues), Reptil (4 Issues), Sinister War (4 Issues) The Mighty Valkyries (5 Issues),

New Series: Darkhold: Alpha #1 (Steve Orlando, Cian Tormey), Eternals: Thanos Rises #1 (Kieron Gillen, Dustin Weaver), Extreme Carnage: Agony #1 (Alyssa Wong, Fran Galan), Extreme Carnage: Omega #1 (Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Manuel Garcia), Extreme Carnage: Toxin #1 (Steve Orlando, Gerardo Sandoval), Inferno (Jonathan Hickman, Valerio Schiti), Ka-Zar: Lord Of The Savage Land (Zac Thompson, German Garcia), The Death Of Doctor Strange (Jed McKay, Lee Garbett), The Last Anninhilation: Wakanda #1 (Evan Narcisse, German Peralta), The Last Annihilation: Wiccan & Hulkling #1 (Anthony Oliveira, Jan Bazadula), X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation #1 (Si Spurrier, Bob Quinn)
