A pair of characters each earn their 36th overall appearance to meet the threshold for inclusion in the Fantasy Comic League review database. Tempo, who debuted in 1990, likely joins the main Marauders’ crew in a matter of issues anyway, so she likely does not even need the 36 appearances. Lady Lotus, the second inductee this week, notches her necessary appearance 42 years after she debuted in an issue of the Invaders in 1979. Tempo and Lotus are not likely to be the last inductees in the coming weeks. Chance, Slyde and Francine Frye—a trio of “Sinister War” antagonists—close in on Spider-Man and their own milestone 36th appearance. But not yet, as the event takes a break this week.
Book the Week – X-Men: The Trial of Magneto #1 (Review score: 113 Points; 41 Characters). The follow up to the summer’s biggest surprise, the death of the Scarlet Witch, begins with various X-teams coming to the same conclusion. Magneto must be questioned—if not suspected—in the murder of his estranged, adopted daughter. As suspected, the Master of Magnetism does not take the accusations well and the mastermind behind Krakoa’s latest world-changing accomplishment lashes out against some of Krakoa’s finest mutants.
Antagonist of the Week – Kang (Review score: 17 Points/1 Appearance; 17 Pts/App). Kang’s time has come. But when one is the master of time, your time comes whenever you want. Fresh off of his debut in the Loki Disney Plus television show, Kang receives his first solo title. This title focuses on Kang’s youth, or potentially a variation of his youth. In this story, Kang teaches his younger self the valuable lessons he has learned fighting the Avengers and Fantastic Four, but the young Kang chooses a new love and scorns his older version’s warnings.
Hero of the Week – Iron Man (Review score: 17 Points/3 Appearances; 5.67 Pts/App). Iron Man ends his time in Stilt-Man’s false utopia when he realizes the villain was keeping his citizens living in fear. At Hellcat’s telepathic behest—and a visit from the Living Tribunal—Iron Man returns to his quest to defeat Korvac and finds himself on Galactus’ ship. A cameo in Trial of Magneto and a supporting role in Marvels boosts his strong three-appearance week.
Top Characters (by review score). Iron Man, Kang (17); Nightcrawler (14); Spider-Woman (13); Emma Frost, Magneto, Marvel Girl (11); Kate Pryde, Kid Kang (10); Spider-Man/Miles Morales, Spider-Man/Peter Parker (9)
