A potential cosmic cat fight takes shape. Now that the mutants have colonized Mars, S.W.O.R.D. begins to explore the fallout of their actions. First, Abigail Brand introduces a new universal credit to the Galactic Council and offers the members a taste of Mysterium, the new metal they have created. The biggest reveal, however, comes when Storm unveils herself as the Voice of Sol and the Regent of Mars. But how will these revelations impact the rest of the Marvel cosmic universe, specifically the self proclaimed Boss of Space, Captain Marvel? Only time will tell, as Carol, this week’s Top Hero, has her hands full learning magic and attempting to prevent a dire future. The Fantasy Comic League begins to track Skaar and Stacy X after their first appearances in several years.
FCL Podcast 04 – A Suitable Storm of S.W.O.R.D.
Book the Week – Marvel’s Voices: Pride #1 (Review score: 83 Points; 51 Characters). Marvel’s latest entry in the “Voices” anthology series celebrates Pride Month and their vast number of LGBTQ+ characters. A dozen small stories highlight some of Marvel’s most prominent characters such as Northstar; Hulkling and Wiccan; Nico Minoru and Karolina Dean; and newer characters, such as Dr. Charlene McGowan. As is the case with most things recently, the mutants steal the spotlight. A look in at the Hellfire Gala boosts the number of characters appearing in the book, Mystique and Destiny star in one of the more action packed stories, and new character Somnus comes home to Krakoa.
Hero of the Week – Captain Marvel (Review score: 13 Points/3 Appearances; 4.33 Pts/App). Captain Marvel and the rest of the Avengers wake up, emerge, reappear(?) in Heroes Return, the final issue of the “Heroes Reborn” story. Her shoulder can also be seen at the Hellfire Gala in Wolverine, but her solo title is what puts her above the rest of the characters this week. After being turned away by all of the friendly magic users she knows, Carol makes the questionable decision to team-up with Enchantress, the mother of her future antagonist, Ove. She wisely decides to withhold the fact that she is trying to put an end to Amora’s potential future child. A decision that surely won’t be a problem in the future.
Antagonist of the Week – Cameron Hodge (Review score: 11 Points/1 Appearance; 11.0 Pts/App). Cameron Hodge, another would be child abductor, fights X-Factor in the retrospective X-Men Legends. He utilizes the new mechanical suit gifted to him by Apocalypse to attack the mutants. As X-Factor plays keep away with baby Christopher Summers, Hodge notices that the baby is also a mutant and vows to destroy him as well. Fortunately, Angel recognizes Apocalypse’s influence on Hodge’s suit and unleashes the full fury of his metallic wings to send the antagonist packing.
Performance of the Week – Reptil (Review score: 10 Points/1 Appearance; 10.0 Pts/App). As Reptil struggles with his decision to leave behind superheroics, his cousins attempt to change his mind and embrace his dinosaur-shifting abilities. After witnessing an antagonist rampage through the streets using an artifact similar to his own, Reptil has no other choice but to return to Dinosaur World and seek the help from the Hag of the Pits.
Top Characters (by review score). Captain Marvel (13); Beast (12); Cameron Hodge, Magneto, Nova/Richard Rider (11); Reptil (10); Angel, Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Titania (9); Iceman, Storm (8)
