After two and a half years, the Squadron Supreme of America gets the spotlight and replaces the Avengers when the “Heroes Reborn” event begins. As such, a lot of the top tier characters do not have a lot of expected appearances in the month of May. Captain America, for instance, with no solo title and no Avengers book, has no estimated appearances. The same can be said for Captain Marvel. But one Avenger, Blade, remains aware of the new reality led by Hyperion, Blur, Doctor Spectrum and the rest of Mephisto’s deceptive team of American heroes. Therefore, the Daywalker is the only character (outside of the Squadron Supreme) who will be receiving a Fantasy Comic League score in all of the Heroes Reborn” books until we learn more about the event. Hyperion is the only character named in multiple issues, but the rest of his team would be a good wild card pick despite their low estimate of appearances. As always, Spider-Man remains a top tier draft with The Amazing Spider-Man double dipping again, in addition to receiving an Annual issue that caps the “King’s Ransom” storyline. Writer Al Ewing releases the latest Immortal Hulk one shot, Time of Monsters.
Team-Ups: Magik forms a team of mutants called the Dark Riders—including Wolfsbane, Marrow and Shark-Girl, the latter two not present in the preview charts—to support Man-Thing in the latest chapter of the Curse of the Man-Thing miniseries. Thor, the King of Asgard, duels Dane Whitman, the Knight of Camelot, in the latest Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade.
New Series: Angel and Penance, the CXOs of X-Corp, open its doors for business. Shang-Chi returns in a new series and he is at odds with the rest of the Marvel superheroes, such as Spider-Man and the Avengers. The young hero Reptil receives his own series spinning out of the “King in Black” event.
Final Issues: Black Panther comes to an end, and while the final battle will be fought between T’Challa and Killmonger, the other prominent Black heroes of the Marvel universe—such as Storm, Falcon, Luke Cage, Miles Morales and Ironheart—will make another appearance before the dust has settled.
