The Fantasy Comic League division play returns with the slow return of comics. June sees the release of 21 comics from Marvel, which in the past, would have been a typical number of comics in one week for the publisher. The limited number of books offers a chance for Fantasy Comic League agents to draft some pretty crazy teams. Here are the hot tips for the month of June.
Events: Empyre finally kicks off with an Avengers tie-in and all the usual heroes are present on the cover, including the leading man of Empyre, Hulkling. Before the hiatus in comics, Outlawed began, and now that we have returned, Spider-Man: Miles Morales has an entry in the event.
Team-Ups and Guest appearances: Punisher teams up with Scream in her digital only book. Iron Man tangos with the Black Cat in the latest entry of her series. The father/daughter team-up between Ant-Man and Stinger comes to a close in the last issue of Ant-Man.
Also-Ran’s: The Avengers of the Wastelands are led by Dani “Thor” Cage, but her team includes characters not listed in our tier chart below such as Hulk, Jr, another version of Ant-Man, and the Wasteland version of Viv Vision, The Avenger. The New Mutants book is one of two X-Men titles in June, and in addition to the main mutants, they’re joined by their new recruits (also not listed in the tier charts) Mondo and Chamber.
Gambles: Hulk has a new issue coming out, but the focus of the book is on the Leader. Spider-Man has made frequent appearances in the Spider-Ham mini, and though he’s not listed in the solicits, it’s likely that he’ll be in the finale. Likewise, Thor teamed with Valkyrie against his brother, no not that one, but Tyr. And while he’s not listed, it’d be a good bet he’d appear in the latest issue as that story continues.
