War of the Realms prepares for the final showdown between Malekith’s Dark Council and Earth’s greatest heroes by setting the stage in its penultimate issue. The top book from the week registers 131 Fantasy Comic League review points and checks in on 48 separate characters. Characters who typically have not interacted before, such as Okoye and Angela or Balder and Ghost Rider, get an opportunity to team-up during quick appearances, while Thor’s presence and lightning is felt throughout the issue. By the end of the book writer Jason Aaron sets the stage for the return of more Thunder Gods in the conclusion to his epic. Journey into Mystery comes in a distant second for Event book of the week with 26 points.
Captain Marvel, the top Solo title for the week with 31 points, ties into the “War of the Realms” event with team up appearances by Black Widow and Doctor Strange. The trio travel to South America to confront the Enchantress, but Goddess has an out-of-body experience planned for Carol and Strange. Domino and her Hotshots lose a member of their team but secure the top Team book of the week with 26 review points. They tie for the top spot with the Guardians of the Galaxy Annual which focuses more on the individual characters that were sucked into a black hole in the series’ premiere issue.
