The Wastelands is no country for old men, but lately there have been a lot of comics for them. The Universe known as Earth-807128, popularized in the Old Man Logan story line, continues to grow with the introduction of Old Man Quill and his reformed Guardians of the Galaxy. Old Man Quill takes the top honors for a solo character’s Book of the Week with 39 points. The Guardians return to Earth and learn of the unfortunate fate that has befallen the world’s heroes. Boosting the points for this issue are the introduction of the Old Man Wrecking Crew and their quick demise at the hands of the Guardians. Two teams of Avengers top the team and event books for the week as well. The main Avengers title continues the vampire civil war as it hits close to home when one of their own is recruited against them. The team recruited for the No Road Home event confronts Nyx and her children for the first time. Unready for her, Voyager decides to scatter the heroes across the cosmos to prevent the Goddess of Night from obtaining her Night Shards. Avengers scores 48 points, most for a team book, and No Road Home tops the event books with 47 points.
When it comes to character breakdowns, Wolverine returns to dominance with his first big week of the year. He appears in four comics, including the finale to Return of Wolverine and the start of the three-part Hulkverines event, for a total of 21 points. So far in 2019, he has a total of 36 points in eight comics, a ways off of Peter Parker’s 68 points across 12 appearances, but if anyone can challenge Spider-Man for top character of the year, it could be Wolverine. Miles Morales, the younger Spider-Man, also has an impressive week. He scores 14 points in his solo title where he hits for the Fantasy Comic League cycle (a point in every category). Top antagonists for the week belong to Nyx and the Shadow Colonel, who both lead teams against the Avengers and score seven points apiece.
