The Gods of the Norse pantheon get a lot of coverage in the Marvel Universe due to Thor’s popularity, but Hercules and the Greek Gods take center stage in the latest Avengers event. Unfortunately, their star turn seems to be short-lived. In the first issue of Avengers: No Road Home, Nyx, the Greek Goddess of Night, kills Zeus along with other prominent Gods such as Athena and Hermes. Voyager assembles another group of heroes led by Hercules to travel to face the Goddess and end the unnatural night she had created. First time Avenger Rocket Raccoon is one of 14 characters to appear for 45 points in the Book of the Week. Captain Marvel scores the most points for a character’s solo title. She joins a group of rebels, led by best friend Spider-Woman, in fighting the personification of
Toxic Radioactive Masculinity. The book earns a score of 38 review points.
Spider-Man earns the Hero of the Week with 15 points across three titles. In Amazing Spider-Man, an 18-point book, he comes face-to-face with the cloned Ned Leeds, only to witness his death all over again. His team-up book with Deadpool sees them return from their road trip to the Negative Zone only to wind up a year into an alternate future after a mysterious event leaves several heroes dead and the Mole Man a rampaging, radiated giant. Bringing it back to the Gods, Thor also appears in three titles for the week for the most appearances by Marvel’s non-flagship character. Two of them are cameos in Captain Marvel and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. His biggest issue comes from his solo title and the issues he has with his father. With the War of the Realms on the horizon, war reaches the home front as Thor and Odin exchange mighty hammer blow after blow.
