It’s the return of the Merc. Deadpool, a character who has consistently been the number two performer behind Spider-Man, breaks out of his 2018 slump to capture his first “Hero of the Week” title of the year. His 20-point performance not only represents his best individual week of the year, but pushes him back into second place for overall points after Old Man Logan and Black Panther experience a dip in their personal performances. Doctor Strange continues to wrangle the new Infinity Watch but the vengeful Gamora is tearing them apart which leads to Captain America and the Avengers stepping in to help. A total of 12 drafted characters appear in Infinity Wars, making it the book of the week with 39 points. Strange scores six points in Infinity Wars and six in his solo title for second place, with Steve Rogers one point behind him in third. His cameo in Weapon H accounts for seven of his 11 total points.
Captain Marvel and Thor also fall to Gamora’s schemes in Infinity Wars. They tie with Sabretooth in fourth place with eight points, which is also Victor Creed’s best single week performance while drafted in the Fantasy Comic League. The Extermination of the X-Men begins and Cyclops feels it more then most when his date night with Bloodstorm goes from awkward to heartbreaking. She dies in his arms continuing the trend of tragic relationships for the X-Men’s leader. Iron Man, who typically has better luck with the ladies, ties with the young mutant for seventh place at seven points each. Rounding out the top performances are Deathstrike, who proves to be a solid pick in his Fantasy debut month, and young Iceman, who is the other focal point in Extermination after getting kidnapped by Cable. They each score six points in ninth place.
The surprise performance of the week comes from Thanos. The Mad Titan defies death when he appears in flashbacks and haunts his adopted daughter in Infinity Wars, but he also makes a post-mortem appearance in Thor to dump Hela. He scores a modest but unexpected five points.
Hero and power usages are a combination of all Fantasy Comic League divisions: Asgard, Danger Room, Do You Even Comic Book, Latveria, Midtown, Multiverse, Negative Zone and Wakanda. League participants should cross-reference the official points with their hero roster and drafted powers for their heroes’ scores.
