Ms. Marvel beats Spider-Man to the punch, both in the Fantasy Comic League power rankings and in his own comic book. The young champion earns her first “Hero of the Week” title of the year when she shows up in Spectacular Spider-Man and takes down the Shocker before the titular hero arrives on the scene of the crime. Those three points are the difference maker in her 14 point total. Dan Slott, who concludes his Ironman-esque run writing Amazing Spider-Man with issue 801, begins his stint as the main architect of Tony Stark’s adventures. He begins by giving Iron Man nine points in his new solo title. Tony earns a total of 12 points in second place. Spider-Man is left holding the bronze medal with 11 points.
The middle of the power rankings focuses on Avengers, Champions and a Defender, oh my! The young Wasp flies into fourth place with 10 points as her team-up with Ant-Man continues. Captain Marvel has antagonistic appearances in the Avengers and Champions books but is able to put aside her differences with the other heroes before the issues end. Carol scores eight points for fifth place. In sixth, Doctor Strange breaks free from an alien jail cell while remaining locked out of magic in his solo title. The majority of his seven points come from the Avengers title. Daredevil is on the side of the angels (and warrior priests) in seventh place with six points in his own book.
The bottom third of the power rankings features a five-way tie between heroes with five points. Typical antiheroes Domino, Loki and Sabretooth match up with the more straightforward heroes She-Hulk and Spider-Man Miles Morales to round out the top characters of the week. However, the real story of the week comes in X-Men: Gold, the book with 22 total points, third behind Avengers (29) and Champions (23). While our eyes were on Kitty Pryde and Colossus, whose plans for marriage vanished quicker than Shadowcat at the altar, Gambit and Rogue stole the spotlight. The popular X-couple stepped into the wedding void and said ‘I do’ for two points each.
Hero and power usages are a combination of all Fantasy Comic League divisions: Asgard, Danger Room, Do You Even Comic Book, Latveria, Midtown, Multiverse, Negative Zone and Wakanda. League participants should cross-reference the official points with their hero roster and drafted powers for their heroes’ scores.
