Help Support The Heroes We Love: Last month we celebrated Series cut down before their prime, so this month let’s focus on those wonderful underdogs that continue on through the year. What makes a Title an under-dog? A lack of the DC Trinity (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) or their adjacent Families/Villains. And this criteria is such a rarity, it’s a struggle to find 5 Books to Highlight this month. But we’ll continue with Shazam by Josie Campbell and Emanuela Lupacchino. Josie Campbell took over from original writer, Mark Waid after delivering some phenomenal Mary Bromfield work within the Mini-series, The New Champion Of Shazam, and during the Amazon Attacks Event. Here her focus shifts to the entire Shazam family and the crazy bizarre world they inhabit, full of attorney dinosaurs and churlish Gods. All of which is beautifully rendered by Emanuela Lupacchino (making this a rare female driven creative team). And you can read Amazon Attacks, The New Champion Of Shazam, or the opening arc of this Shazam run at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Dark Knights Of Steel: All-Winter #2, Jenny Sparks #1
Hero Of The Week – This week saw the conclusion of the John Stewart/Olgrun focused Maxi-Series, Green Lantern: War Journal. And John celebrated in style, with a massive 20 Point Appearance that netted him both Hero and Performance Of The Week. Kudos to you John, I hope the upcoming Civil Corps brings you more fortune.
Antagonist Of The Week – Another week of Absolute Power, another week of Amanda Waller getting Absolutely wrecked by other Villains. Instead, we have a two way tie for Antagonist Of The Week, with both Punchline and Captain Boomerang putting in 6 Point Appearances. When 6 Point chumps like Punchline and Boomerang outscore you, you know you’re not doing the most with your Event, Amanda.
Book Of The Week – While the majority of the books stayed with a 10 Point Difference between 23 and 33 Points, one book would rise above the masses to score Book Of The Week. That book would be the penultimate issue of Tom Taylor’s Titans series, with Titans #14 bringing in 51 Points over 10 Characters.
Power Of The Week – This week we had a pretty tremendous Power Usage in John Stewart’s 20 Point Appearance Extravaganza. His use of Absorb to immortalize his mother’s spirit inside his Lantern ring is perhaps not the ending many of us expected from the Maxi-Series, but it is a notable one all the same.
