Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting the Annuals of 2025. We start with this week’s Titans Annual. Phil Jimenez returns to Donna Troy to pen a love letter for her restored history of love and loss, in a story he both writes and draws. This is the best single issue of 2025, I don’t think anything will be able to match it’s depth and maturity. It’s everything I feel is missing from the main title and it’s poignant in it’s handling of Donna Troy’s complex history. It’s as close to perfection as someone can get, and you can read this story at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Batman – The Long Halloween – The Last Halloween #8, DC X Sonic The Hedgehog #5
Hero Of The Week – Small weeks are always the best, when it comes to highlighting characters. Newcomer Gold Beetle came in at third with 11 Points; she doesn’t have a full name yet so Lilly doesn’t get the win. Jai West came in second with 12 Points, highlighting the true star of Si Spurrier’s Flash run. And Donna Troy scored both Performance Of The Week and Hero Of The Week with a 13 Point Appearance. Well earned, Donna.
Antagonist Of The Week – Plants and Animals went to war this week as Poison Ivy and Gorilla Grodd duked it out for the top villain. Ivy won by one point, becoming Antagonist Of The Week with a 10 Point Appearance.
Book Of The Week – In a week full of special issues, DC’s Kal-El-Fornia Love #1 ended up becoming Book Of The Week, with 119 Points over 18 Characters.
Power Of The Week – So this is a fun one, one of our earliest debates at the Fantasy Comic League; how do you score a hero breaking out of his restraints. An easy answer is Strength, because a powerhouse uses that to escape. But what about someone like Batman? It does really depend on how it’s visualized. Sometimes it’s a Tech, for a lockpick. Sometimes, it’s Agility for maneuvering his body out of restraints. Sometimes it’s Willpower for stomaching the pain of dislocating something. But often when we don’t see the specifics, we go with what Nightwing scored in Titans Annual 2025, which is Precision.
Welcome To The League – 3 New Heroes Added: Huntress (Helena Wayne), Marilyn Moonlight, Shadow Lass (Tasmia Mallor).
And with this trilogy of characters, the FCL is now officially scoring 752 DC characters, surpassing the 750 mark that I had set as our first goal at the end of 2022. We started with 292 characters on Week 32 of 2022 and now we’re here. The next goal? 1000.
