Top Developments and Milestones. Miles Morales cures his vampirism following the events of last summer’s “Blood Hunt” story. Storm’s dinner with Doctor Doom ends with a cosmic rebirth as the Eternal Storm. Michael Badilino rebonds with the Spirit of Vengeance. In the first issue of Ultimate Wolverine, the Ultimate variations of Nightcrawler and Mystique fall victim to the Winter Soldier but hint at a deeper connection with their assailant. A new series kicks off focused on Rogue’s oft-talked about time in the Savage Land.
Book of the Week – Avengers Assemble #5 (Review score: 58 Points; 17 Characters). The Aveng.E.R.S. foil the Serpent Society’s plot to release the Serpent’s Tears in service of Mephisto. Lightspeed, Shang-Chi, and She-Hulk each score a Defeats Antagonist. Meanwhile, Hercules and Lightning form a charged circuit to subdue the rest. The team also manages to quickly cure Captain America of his serpentine transformation.
Hero of the Week – Daredevil/Elektra Natchios (Review score: 11 Points/1 Appearance; 11.0 Pts/App; 3.35 Weighted Score). The title of the book may say Wolverine, but Elektra stole the spotlight—and the Hero of the Week title—from Laura. She futilely attempted to guide the angry mutant though most advice went unheeded. She still managed a Leads Team for her effort in the Team Up.
Antagonist of the Week – Winter Solider/Ultimate (Review score: 7 Points/1 Appearance; 7.0 Pts/App; 2.5 Weighted Score). The Ultimate Wolverine debuts as this line’s version of the Winter Soldier—a brainwashed enforcer sent out to put down rebel factions. But with hints about his past ties to the Opposition and his classic role in main continuity, it’s only a matter of time before Logan breaks free from Rasputin’s control.
New Characters. Members of Kitty and Emma’s young mutant team—Axo, Bronze, and Melee—join the Database as students on a titular team. Ultimate Nightcrawler and Mystique are also added, thanks to their established roles in main continuity, though their time in the Ultimate line may be short-lived.
