Top Developments and Milestones. Spinning out of the pages of Spider-Woman, the New Champions launch their own series—unexpectedly joined by a few more new champions. One Sentinel gets an upgrade, another shuts down for good. Magik stars in her first solo book since a four-issue run in 2000, and Elektra headlines the latest “Red Band” limited series.
Book of the Week – New Champions #1 (Review score: 32 Points; 7 Characters). Free from Hydra’s control, Liberty joins forces with Moon Squire, Cadet Marvel, and Hellrune to form a new team protecting San Francisco. While the others reunite with their families, Hellrune searches for her birth parents—only to summon unexpected allies when trouble finds her.
Hero of the Week – Magik (Review score: 14 Points/2 Appearances; 7.0 Pts/App; 4.83 Weighted Score). Magik celebrates her birthday in the debut issue of her new ongoing series. Darkchylde, her demonic alter ego, resurfaces as she investigates mutant disappearances in Alaska. In Uncanny X-Men, she helps the two X-Men teams escape Graymalkin prison.
Antagonist of the Week – Scurvy (Review score: 5 Points/2 Appearance; 2.5 Pts/App; 2.6 Weighted Score). Uncanny X-Men reveals Scurvy’s origin. He met Doctor Ellis back when she was a podcaster, and they became lovers. She manipulated his psychic powers, accelerating his aging and breaking down his body. Now, he puts those powers to the test—facing off with Professor Xavier in a mental showdown.
New Characters. Hellrune and Moon Squire join their New Champions teammates in the FCL database, as titular characters in a team book. Cadet Marvel and Liberty had already met the six Appearances in under a year requirement. The new class of Uncanny X-Men—Calico, Deathdream, Jitter and Ransom—are among the first characters to satisfy the updated Appearance requirements allowing students of Adventurers to be counted. They’re joined by Hag, the book’s antagonist, who hits her sixth Appearance in under a year. Juston Seyfert, the student who befriended a wild Sentinel in 2003’s Sentinel series, makes his first Appearance in more than a decade.
Top Characters (by overall review score). Magik (14); Daredevil/Elektra Natchios (9); Hellrune, Liberty, Namor, Venom/Symbiote, Voivod (8); Cadet Marvel, Nightcrawler, Synch, Wolverine/James Howlett (6)
