DC Weekly Review: September 21, 2024 (Week 38)

Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting DC’s Black Label initiative, a more mature creator focused line of publications at DC. Black Label has drawn some of the biggest names in the industry back to DC. This week took readers into a storm of wild proportions with Jenny Sparks #2. Tom King always works with some of the best artists in the industry and Jeff Spokes is no exception. His stunning artwork will carry you through a world where Captain Atom has gone wrong and Batman must recruit the Spirit of the 20th Century, Jenny Sparks to save the day. And you can read the opening salvos of the story at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).

Weekly Omissions – Batman: The Last Halloween #0, Dark Knights Of Steel: All-Winter #3, Jenny Sparks #2, John Constantine: Hellblazer – Dead In America #9, Multiversus: Collision Detected #1, The Joker – The World #1

Hero Of The Week – It was a Super-Heavy Week this time around, with the Super-Family cleaning up most of the categories. First, we acknowledge Clark Kent as Hero Of The Week, bringing in 18 Points over 3 Appearances. Then we recognize the joint strength of Nia Nall and Jonathan Kent as they tie for Performance Of The Week with 11 Point Appearances. Not bad for Nia’s farewell performance.

Antagonist Of The Week – And then we give Antagonist Of The Week to Brainiac Queen, who brought 10 Points in over a single Appearance.

Book Of The Week – But thankfully, we get to break the Super-Trend, by giving Book Of The Week to Wonder Woman #13, which brought in 99 Points over 24 Characters. A lot of these characters were absent in the larger Absolute Power Event, so it’s nice to see them get a moment to kick ass too.

Power Of The Week – I think this week I’m going to highlight Zatanna’s power usage of Rage, as it lead to an excellent monologue from Zee about how it feels to operate in a world where her real name and hero name are indistinguishable from one another. It was a strong character moment, in a Superman book of all places.

Welcome To The League – No New Additions Added.
