Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting DC’s Black Label initiative, a more mature creator focused line of publications at DC. Black Label has drawn some of the biggest names in the industry back to DC. This week saw readers return to a Gotham lit by Gaslight in Batman: Gotham By Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #3. While the original featured artwork from Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy), this series beings back two 00s creatives, Andy Diggle and Leanadro Fernandez. With a title like the Kryptonian Age, you would expect this to feature a Victorian era Superman for Bruce to grapple with. Instead, we see steampunk takes on characters like Adam Strange, John Constantine, and Diana Prince. And you can read the opening salvos of the story at DC Universe Infinite, when you subscribe to the Ultra Annual Level (which runs the price of $170 CAD).
Weekly Omissions – Batman ’89: Echoes #4, Batman: Gotham By Gaslight – The Kryptonian Age #4, DC Vs. Vampires: World War V #2, Death In The Family – Robin Lives #3
Hero Of The Week – Another week, another Hero Of The Week for Bruce Wayne; he brought in 15 Points over 3 Appearances. And while one of those was a 10 Point Appearance, two Heroes brought in 11 Points to best him. Performance Of The Week is shared between Billy Batson and John Stewart this week.
Antagonist Of The Week – This was the week of finales scoring.. honestly mediocre for their lead Antagonists, but strong enough that they get Gold. The finale of Joshua Williamson’s Batman & Robin brought Bane to the table, while the finale of Tom King’s The Penguin brought Black Spyder to the table. They both ended up tying for Antagonist Of The Week, with a simple 5 Points each.
Book Of The Week – It was an incredibly tight race at the top today, as an Event title and Event Tie-In went head to head. And while the Green Lanterns put on a mighty showing with 52 Points, Amanda Waller’s Amazo Task-Force and the Amazons took Book Of The Week. Absolute Power: Task Force VII #6 brought in 53 Points over 17 Characters.
Power Of The Week – The Penguin #12 left me shook after I finished it. An incredibly bleak end to a dark book, and Black Spyder’s use of the Assassin Power played a big part of that. It’s not rare a Power usage causes multiple CDs to score as well, but this one did it.
