Hank Pym’s deception and formation of his own Lethal Legion is exposed in Avengers, Inc. But so too is Ultron’s return, now separated from his creator. The only Character Development moments from the week belong to six of the eight characters in Avengers, Inc. As has been Marvel’s recent custom, they preview the upcoming year with the latest Timeless issue.
Book the Week – Miles Morales: Spider-Man #14 (Review score: 56 Points; 16 Characters). With the Gang War raging, Hobgoblin expands his ranks by recruiting the Enforcers. Miles Morales is forced into a team-up with the Cape Killers after they arrest the Daughters of the Dragon. But by the end of the issue, he’s joined by some friendly faces in Ms. Marvel, Shift and Starling.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 18 Points/3 Appearances; 6.0 Pts/App). Spider-Man ends his rebound year strong, adding one more Hero of the Week title for a total of 13 in 2023. He led the Hero division in Most Appearances, Powers, Team-Ups, Civilians Saved, Character Developments and Antagonists Defeated. Spidey even bested Venom for power discrepancies with 36 instances of a unique ability to Venom’s 33. He shows up in 49 of the 52 scoring weeks, but the only category he did not win was Leads Team.
Antagonist of the Week – Carnage/Symbiote (Review score: 11 Points/1 Appearance; 11.0 Pts/App). The symbiote holds on to the top Antagonist spot for the year and dethrones Doctor Doom, Marvel’s typical top terrorizer. The Carnage symbiote had the Most Antagonists of the Week (8), Powers and Antagonists Defeated for he bad guys.
