Help Support The Heroes We Love: This month, we’re highlighting a sort of Years End for DC’s 2023 Year. DC managed to increase their output a significant amount from the prior year, while managing to distance many new and on-going Titles from the Greater Gotham Area. Nowhere feels ever entirely divorced from the Bat when you’re in the house he built and that would be felt in our 2023 Artistic Awards. 2023 Writer Of The Year is Dan Watters, whose work on both the Action Comics and Detective Comics line is top level. His work with The Question, Cheshire, Catwoman, and Azrael are some of the best character work DC put out this year. Hero Of The Week- Mentor and Mentee go to war in this Bat-stuffed week. Bruce Wayne had a total of 7 Appearances, bringing in 32 Points. But the apprentice becomes the master this week, as Dick Grayson brought in 36 Points over 5 Appearances to score Hero Of The Week. Performance Of The Week would not belong to the Bat-Family though; Hal Jordan had a terrific 16 Point fight against Sinestro in his title.
Antagonist Of The Week – That battle between Hal and Sinestro would not just benefit the Green Lantern this week. In embracing his anger, Sinestro’s new Red Lantern phase kicked off with a 13 Point performance. This would net him Antagonist Of The Week, as well as his first Flight power of 2023 (Flight is generally Sinestro’s most used power, but 2023 has seen him grounded without his Yellow Ring).
Book Of The Week- It’s Event Week again, but something looms even larger. While Titans: Beast World #2 would bring in 100 Points, but Event Week was no match for the Holiday Season. DC ‘Twas The Mite Before Christmas #1 was our Book Of The Week, bringing in 134 Points over 38 Characters.
