An eventful week with numerous developments transpiring. Steve Rogers becomes a landlord when he buys his childhood apartment building in the first issue of his new Captain America series. Guardians of the Galaxy reveals the secret origin of Grootfall. Loki loses his throne in the finale of his miniseries. Black Widow joins the Unity Squad in Uncanny Avengers. In Dark X-Men, Gambit, Gimmick (now codenamed Feint), and Maggott join Madelyn’s team. The Vulture joins Orchis in its hunt for Nightcrawler who is masquerading as Spinnenman in Uncanny Spider-Man. The brutal matchup book, Predator vs. Wolverine, gets excluded from scoring due to its setting in the Crossover Earth reality.
Book the Week – X-Men Annual #1 (Review score: 39 Points; 18 Characters). Another chaotic battle takes place in another Annual title. This time around Cyclops proves he’s capable of taking down some of Marvel’s toughest characters. Captain Marvel may have him outmatched in strength and abilities, but Cyclops outsmarts the Avengers’ leader when he overloads her energy absorption with a fully unleashed optic attack.
Hero of the Week – Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Review score: 29 Points/6 Appearances; 3.33 Pts/App). His best performance of the year—and most Appearances in a week for Spider-Man—nearly doubles Wolverine’s second place performance, who misses out on his his first Hero of the Week. This is the 10th title for Peter Parker in 2023.
Antagonist of the Week – Loki (Review score: 8 Points/1 Appearance; 8.0 Pts/App). Loki may have lost his kingdom, but he gains his first Antagonist of the Week for 2023 at the end of his miniseries.
