Characters are not in their right mind this week. In a flashback to her shadier days, Emma Frost controls the patrons of the Bar With No Name, including Doctor Octopus, Rhino and Electro in the latest Invincible Iron Man. Electro is also one of the several villains to be kidnapped and controlled in Rogue & Gambit. Silk’s trapped in her mind living a different lifestyle at the start of her new series. Also on the Spider-Verse side of things, Peter Parker crosses the 200-point mark and the Spider-Woman of 2099 gets added to the database.
Book the Week – Captain Marvel #49 (Review score: 65 Points; 16 Characters). In the penultimate series of Kelly Thompson’s landmark run for the character, Carol unleashes on the Empress Brood over the death of Binary. One of the ongoing plot points of the series was Carol working on her friendship and trust with Rogue. That comes up once more as Carol entrusts Rogue to absorb some of her powers when she comes close to going Super Nova.
Hero of the Week – Iron Man (Review score: 20 Points/2 Appearances; 10.0 Pts/App). Last year’s top character has her best performance of the year and comes into one point of Captain America for second place. In his two appearances this week he faces off with typical X-Men and Spider-Man antagonists. Mojo puts him in one of his televised traps and Emma Frost uses her mind control abilities to throw members of the Sinister Six at Tony Stark.
Antagonist of the Week – Vanisher (Review score: 5 Points/1 Appearance; 5.0 Pts/App). An unfortunate Antagonist of the Week for Vanisher. He is one of the captured antagonists in Rogue & Gambit, but when Rogue tries to free him from the booby trapped control chip he meets an untimely end.
